Best Time to Visit Fazilka

Fazilka experiences extreme climate hence peak summers and winters are not suggested as good times to visit Fazilka. February to April and september to November are considered good seasons to visit Fazilka. If you choose to witness the great events of Fazilka visit during Anand Utsav-Environment Festival, Fazilka Heritage Festival and Mehak Sarhad Di organized by Graduates Welfare Association. Or on 17 December when Vijay Diwas is celebrated in the memory of our freedom fighters at Asafwala War Memorial.

Places of Interest In and Around Fazilka

Apart from being famous as Indo-Pak border, Fazilka is a also famous for seven main Hindu temples namely the Shiv Temple of Kusht Ashram (in Leper colony), Shiv Temple, Hanuman Temple, Parnami Mandir, Ram Mandir, and Dayra Baba Balbantgiri Temple. There are also a lot many other tourists attraction.

Tourist spots in FazilkaShiv Temple of Kusht Ashram : The temple dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the late Dr. Ved Parkash and Lal Devi Dhawan was built by the Dhawan Family in 2005. It is situated in the Leper colony. The main motive of the temple was to enable Lepers to worship, who are traditionally not allowed to worship at Hindu temples.

Shree Bala Ji Dhaam : The temple is inspired by Salasar Dham (Rajasthan) and has a beautiful Lord Hanuman statue, who is the main deity of the temple.

Fazilka Clock Tower : It was built by Rai Sahab Madan Gopal Periwal and Shopat Rai Periwal in memory of famous philanthropist of Fazilka, Ram Narayan Periwal. With an average height of 95 feet (29 m), it is the tallest clock tower in North India. It was built by contractor Sh. Narain Singh under the supervision of Mohd. Ch Abdul Shakoor Kareem Malak, the sardar of the region. It was inaugurated in June 6, 1939 by Mr. M.R. Sachdev the then Deputy Commissioner of Ferozepur. It is one of the first brick and masonry buildings in Punjab.

Abohar Black Buck Sanctuary : It is a private nature reserve. It is spread over an area of 18,650 hectares. It includes farmlands of 13 Bishnoi villages. Bishnoi community has taken up an initiative of protecting black buck deer, the indigenous antelope. Black buck, the indigenous antelope, with twisted horns, are seen moving freely through the villages and homes. They also protects the blue bull also known as the Neelgai. Other animals found here are Porcupines, wild boars and black ducks. The best time to visit the sanctuary is during winter season as summers are very hot and winter receives heavy rainfall. Buses, taxis and cars are available from Abohar and Fazilka to reach the sanctuary.

Fazilak TV Tower : It is also known as Fazilka Eiffel Tower. With a height of 302.6 mts it is a largest steel tower in India. It is forty fourth in world and second tallest man made tower in India. It supply TV programs in area in a range of 100 kms. The tower was built in 1996 and the construction took 11 long years to complete in 2007. It broadcast Jalandar Doordarshan and Delhi Doordarshan.

Sadqi Retreat Ceremony : Sadiqi village on the India- Pakistan border, lies 14 kms from Fazilka is third joint check post. Its name is counted after Wagah in Amritsar and Hussainiwala in Ferozepur district. Retreat ceremony is performed here every evening by the Border Security Force and the Pakistan Rangers.

Asafwala War Memorial: Located on NH7, 7 kms from Fazilka it is a sacred memorial and War Museum. It was built in the memory of martyrs of 1971 war between Indo-Pak. On 3rd December, 1971 6 frontier Pakistani forces under Mayor Shabbir Sharif attacked the Gurmi Khera region of the Sulemanki sector of Fazilka. Beri Wala Bridge in the Gurmi Khera region was occupied by them in the war. The war continued for 14 days till 17th December. In this time the brave Indian soldiers were able to retain all their territories. Though Beri Wala region was lost to Pakistan. Around 226 soldiers died in the war. Asafwala War Memorial is a homage to all of them.

Emu Farms : It is situated in Katehra village near Fazilka near to Jayani natural farm. It is famous for rearing Emu birds. There are around 45 pairs of beautiful Emu Birds in the farm. The green eggs have many medicinal properties.

Tosha Sweet : Adorned for generations now tosha sweet is famous among Indians and Pakistanis. "Pakpattnian Di Hatti” having three outlets in Fazilka is now not only a shop selling sweet meat, but had become a tourist’s hot stop. .

Shopat Rai Pediwal garden : Shopat Rai Pediwal garden ia a famous garden in the northern part of the city.

Ram Mandir : It is the famous Lord Rama temple located in the heart of the city.

Parnami Mandir : The temple is located in the western part of the city.

How to Reach Fazilka ?

Fazilka can be easily reached through railways and roadways. Fazilka has its own railway station which is connected to Ferozepur and Bhatinda junctions of Northern Railways. A 43 km long railway line is also laid to shorten the distance to Bikaner by 100kms which is constructed to Abohar towards the south.National Highway 10 connectes Fazilka to Delhi via Hissar and Rohtak. There is a good network of state highways connecting Fazilka to Ferozepur , Malout etc. Amritsar international airport and Ludhiana Domestic Airport with an approx. distance of 220kms are the nearest airports.
